2. New 2026 Procedure: Online Arrival Card

Starting in 2026, Vietnam encourages international visitors to complete an Electronic Arrival Card before landing.

  • How to complete it: Access the official immigration portal, fill out your stay details, and save the QR code to your phone.
  • Submission Timing: It is ideally submitted 24 hours prior to departure. Currently, this process is being piloted at Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC) and Phu Quoc Airport for arrivals within 24 to 72 hours before landing.
  • Eligibility: Foreign visitors and Overseas Vietnamese traveling with a visa or E-visa (Vietnamese passport holders are exempt).
  • Cost: Completely free of charge.

To ensure your application is processed efficiently and without hurdles, please consider the following expert tips:

  • Apply Early: We recommend submitting your application at least two weeks before your intended departure date to account for any unforeseen processing delays.
  • Review Requirements Thoroughly: Carefully check the specific visa requirements for Foreign passport holders  before submission to prevent unnecessary rejections.
  • Verify Information Accuracy: Double-check every detail in your application. Ensure that your name, date of birth, and passport number match your physical passport exactly.
  • Ensure Complete Documentation: Provide all required supporting documents (such as clear portrait photos and passport scans) as instructed to avoid back-and-forth requests from immigration officers.
  • Settle Fees Promptly: Ensure your visa fees are paid in full upfront. Applications without confirmed payments will not be queued for processing by the authorities.

  • Internet: Choose an eSIM. You can buy it online and activate it immediately upon landing to book a ride-share. See more here
  • Payment: Credit cards and Apple Pay are common in major cities (Hanoi, HCMC, Da Nang). However, always carry Cash (VND) for street food and local markets.
  • Traffic: To cross the street, walk at a slow, steady pace. Do not stop suddenly or run; drivers will naturally navigate around you.

FAQ?

Can I extend my 90-day E-visa?

Currently, 90-day E-visas cannot be extended directly. You must perform a “Visa Run” (exit to a neighboring country and re-enter with a new E-visa).

What if I made a mistake on my issued E-visa?

Information cannot be edited once the visa is granted. You must apply and pay for a new visa. Always double-check your details before paying!
